Job Summary:
This position manages complex data and information management and analysis to provide meaningful results, which influence strategic decision-making at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. The incumbent works both independently and with teams to plan, initiate and lead analysis from conceptual development, through the enterprise data warehouse implementation. Responsibilities include working with customers to understand complex business requirements, data management and stewardship for a variety of complex data sources, data analysis and the application of analytical techniques to ensure that the data is answering the right question.
The key role of this position is the SAS power user and an expert data steward for the BCBSMN enterprise. The three key skill sets required are:
• Data profiling
• Data mapping
• Data requirements specification documentation
This position provides services to a variety of customers, such as Network Management, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Actuary & Underwriting, Informatics, Audit and the Operations Division. Expert data analyst skills will be leveraged to support both Operational and Healthcare analytics.
Accountabilities:
1. Leads team(s) to develop plans, analyze data and report results to key internal stakeholders.
2. Serves as a data and analytical consultant for key internal stakeholders.
3. Serves as a data expert across a variety of legacy and contemporary data sources and is
recognized as having a skill set that few within the organization have.
4. Develops complex reporting programs in a variety of reporting and analytic tools, integrating
multiple data sources together.
5. Assists co-workers in using data/information in new and innovative ways.
6. Interact with varying levels of leadership, including executives, to present information and
provide suggestions for improving internal enterprise data sources.
7. Mentor people across the organization on data sources, how to access the data warehouse.
8. Partners with internal customers to define business requirements at a very granular level,
including understanding the question at hand, and provides the optimal data reporting
solutions.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience in data analyses, data mapping, data profiling and
requirements specifications in the context of data warehouse. In lieu of a degree, one must have
12 years of experience in data analysis, data profiling and requirement specification
2. Proven experience working with customers across the enterprise to understand business
questions and to develop reporting and analytical solutions in support of those
questions.
3. Two years experience using SAS or a similar business intelligence tool (i.e.: SPSS, Business
Objects, Cognos, and MicroStrategy)
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of manage care and health care claims preferred.
2. Demonstrated ability to design, evaluate and interpret complex data sets.
3. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to present complex technical information to non-technical audiences
and executives.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting with individuals having
diverse professional backgrounds including business, technical and /or clinical.
